While hay bale construction isn’t new to New Mexico, it has typically been used for residential purposes. The new Absolute Real Estate building was actually the first commercial hay bale building in Albuquerque, built in 1996. To make the most of their new space, Schlichte split the building into five suites. The Absolute Real Estate team uses one suite and two others are currently being leased, one to a barber shop, and the other to a Reiki practitioner. Schlichte explained the remaining suites are Presidential Executive Suites. The goal is to partner with tenants that make coming to work a joy, and potentially referral partners. “The suites are large, and ideal for a single use like a therapist, chiropractor, massage therapist, or another professional in that vein.” As for the reason for the move, Schlichte was ready to own his own space again. As an avid real estate investor himself, owning his own building for his business is a must. Schlichte sold his ownership interest in 661 Quantum Rd. (their Rio Rancho location) in early 2022 but had to ride out a two-year lease with his prior partners before making his next purchase. The renovations and the original architecture make it a really wonderful location. It’s a pueblo-style building with three incredible old cottonwoods on the property. Schlichte stated “My wife, Danielle, and I were excited to modernize the property without losing the original Southwest design which features beautiful tongue and groove ceilings, rough cut cedar doors, and large viga-style beams throughout.
